Ocala Travel Information
Glass-bottom boats, thoroughbred horse farms and world-class golf with a backdrop of gently rolling hills sums up Ocala in a nutshell. With its large Victorian homes in meticulously maintained neighborhoods and a small population of only 46,943 people, Ocala presents itself as a peaceful and charming retreat with resort activities, fine dining and gracious accommodations. Low-rise buildings neatly line the streets with lush green palm tree as their attire, majestic sand pines form a green canopy over the Ocala National Forest, and balmy breezes whiff along the crystal clear springs and rivers. Ocala is a small-town paradise with big-time fun. Shopping in Ocala is generally centered around the Historic District and Paddock Mall which has a full array of shops and services. There are literally hundreds of eateries in the area that range from fast food to ethnic and gourmet. Accommodations are just as varied with elegant Queen-Anne style B&Bs such as Seven Sisters Inn, luxury hotels, motels, condos, and campsites. Nothing lacks for style, charm and friendly service. This little town with big style does not want for attractions, either. There are heaps of things to do. There are amusement parks, museums, galleries, parks, tours and cruises galore. It is amazing that a place can contain so much action and still retain its small-town sense of decorum. Perhaps the most famous of these attractions is Silver Springs and their glass-bottom boat cruises that have thrilled visitors for generations. Ocala is a sporty town, as well. Ocala Equestrian Complex on Southwest Sixtieth Avenue, with 400 stalls, indoor and outdoor arenas, a kiddie playground and concession stands, is host to numerous competitions and conferences. Public horseback riding, golf and tennis are offered at the Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club. Hiking and biking trails are provided at Santos Trailhead where horseback riding is also popular. Charming and fun, this little town is within easy access on I-75, about 100 miles north of Tampa.
