Pensacola Travel Information

Motel 6 Florida
Pensacola, Florida

Kissing the border of Alabama, Pensacola is perched in the northwestern corner of the Florida panhandle. An attractive city with a 400-year history, it is home to the Blue Angels and it’s where every naval, marine and coast guard pilot receives training. Pensacola is a proud military town that calls itself the "Cradle to Naval Aviation".

Strolling along brick streets in Downtown, museum hopping in the Seville Historic District, diving for lost treasures off the Gulf coast, pier fishing at the beach, cheering at an Ice Pilots’ hockey game. These are all scenes from Pensacola. Fifty-two miles of sandy beaches, dog racing at the greyhound track, enchanting specialty stores, gregarious flea markets, and lush parks overflowing with fountains. These are also scenes from Pensacola. Here is a town steeped in history, blessed with beauty, and fired up with things to see and do with no room for boredom.

A sports-loving town, Pensacola offers an array of water activities ranging from parasailing and diving to canoeing and surfing. Pensacola Beach, with its soft white sand composed almost entirely of quartz crystals is considered one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Walking along the turquoise water and absorbing the sun’s rays is a favorite sport in and of itself. Biking paths are available throughout the area and serve as a thoroughfare for bikers, hikers, joggers and skaters. In nearby Milton, the Blackwater River State Park offers canoeing, kayaking, tubing, orienteering and camping. A great way to end the day is to take an 11-mile drive along the Pensacola Scenic Bluffs Highway, US-90, a scenic route traveling on the crests of red clay bluffs that protrude from Escambia Bay, creating the highest elevation in Florida.

The often forgotten town of Pensacola has much to offer — history, culture, sports and natural beauty. Although it is out of the way at the northwestern outskirts of the state, the pleasure that awaits is well worth the extra effort to get there.

Pensacola is 107 miles from Gainesville and 200 miles from Tallahassee.
