Sanibel & Captiva Islands Travel Information

Motel 6 Flordia
Sea Shells of Sanibel
Sea Shells of Sanibel
Captival Islands, Florida

Sanibel and Captiva Islands were blessed with gentle breezes, 20 miles of soft sand, and shells of every shape and color. Every sweep of the tide brings thousands of seashells ashore. A line of crouched beachcombers, who stroll the shores at dawn and dusk, rummage through the treasures for the best pick. The islands are famous for their shells and visitors never leave empty-handed.

Shopping here is a pleasurable experience with small boutiques flanked by palm trees and exotic flowers. Dining is so good; it’s sensuous in surroundings that feed the soul with ocean views, lush landscaping, and soft music. When evening comes, live shows provide an enjoyable nightcap to a day of balmy breezes.

Bailey-Matthew Shell Museum on Sanibel Island, the only one of its kind anywhere, is a thrilling museum of sea treasures. Another must-see is the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, a 5000-acre home to more than 200 species of birds, alligators, armadillos, river otters, and turtles. The refuge has a 5-mile drive-through for cars, bikers and hikers, as well as canoe trails. Another point of interest is Care and Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW), a miracle-making facility responsible for the care and rehabilitation of thousands of ill, injured and orphaned wild animals.

Sanibel and Captiva are vivacious islands with plenty of opportunities to get physical. With 20 miles of beautiful beaches, walking and jogging the shoreline while shell searching is a hands-down favorite. But, there are other sports as well. There are 26 miles of bike paths on the islands, fitness clubs, indoor and outdoor pools, as well as tennis and racquetball courts. Golfing is a great way to enjoy the outdoors here. Fishing, canoeing and kayaking offer a serene way to incorporate lush scenery and quiet surroundings into a memorable adventure. Hiking the trails on these exceptional islands fills the senses.

Sanibel and Captiva Islands are exotically beautiful islands located off the coast of Fort Myers on Route 867.
