The Space Coast Travel Information

Motel 6 Flordia
Space Coast, Florida

The Space Coast is 72 miles of beaches running east of Orlando and southward to Melbourne. A homogenous blend of nature and technology, the region embraces: the Kennedy Space Center in Titusville; launch pads, rockets and ocean liners in Cape Canaveral; Patrick Air Force Base in Cocoa Beach; and wildlife preserves, rivers, Intercoastal waterways and pristine shores from Satellite Beach, through Indialantic and onward to Melbourne.

Marked by clusters of townships separated by miles of open space, Route A1A is the main thoroughfare, running along the ocean from beach to beach. The activities of the region are numerous and reflected in the types of shops in town. In Cocoa Beach, for instance, surfing is a passion and Ron Jon is an enormous outlet that serves as a pillar for surfing needs as well as a 24-hour gathering place for people of like mind.

There’s enough activity here to keep hopping. The Kennedy Space Center (Titusville) is an exceptional museum with exhibits of actual rockets and hands-on demonstrations. Cape Canaveral, home to the Space Shuttle, is also a port of call to large ocean liners en route to the Caribbean. Parks and trails are abundant, winding through cedar forests, mangrove marshes, coastal dunes, swamps and palmetto thickets.

Lush golfing greens are available for skilled pros and for beginners. Turtle Creek in Rockledge has been one of Golf Digest’s best picks for the past decade. One of the fastest growing sports in the area is bird watching, and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is one of the best birding sites in the world. Bikes are everywhere — on the beach, in town, all around — and rentals are readily available. Another big time sport is fishing, which is more a way of life than a sport, available almost everywhere water is found — from the pier, the surf, deep sea and the Intercoastal waterways.

With more than 40 parks and 220 square miles of wildlife refuges in addition to wining, dining, museums and miles of beach and surf, there’s no room for boredom here.
